BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A New York sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty is being honored — nearly 90 years after his death.
On Friday, Erie County Sheriff’s deputies will wear black bands over their badges in honor of Fredrick Kaesser, whose story only recently came to light.
Kaesser died on Aug. 1, 1925, a few days after being shot in the abdomen while trailing three armed robbery suspects.
Earlier this year, Kaesser’s name was carved onto a memorial in Buffalo honoring fallen deputies after former Erie County Sheriff Tom Higgins discovered and researched Kaesser’s story.
