WACO, Texas (AP) — A Central Texas jury is to hear opening statements in the retrial of a Central Texas man charged in the deaths of his two stepsons in a fire nearly 30 years ago.

The McLennan County jury will hear the opening statements Tuesday morning in the trial of 62-year-old Ed Graf. He’s charged with two counts each of murder and capital murder and four counts of injury to a child in the 1986 deaths of his stepsons, 8-year-old Jason and 9-year-old Joby.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals overturned Graf’s conviction last year after arson experts criticized testimony used to persuade jurors that Graf was guilty of setting fire to a shed at the family home.

Graf spent more than 25 years in prison before he was granted a new trial.
