GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — No one has bid for an upstate New York city’s downtown arena after the 35-year-old sports and entertainment venue was put up for public auction.
Local media report no written bids were received Monday for the Glens Falls Civic Center, which had a minimum bid of $1.5 million.
Earlier this summer, the city Common Council authorized the auction after Mayor Jack Diamond said this year’s operating shortfall would total about $900,000. Diamond said it was time for the city to cut its losses and get out of the arena business.
The 160,000-square-foot venue seats nearly 5,000 and sits on more than 3.5 acres of land in downtown Glens Falls, 45 minutes north of Albany.
The arena will be the new home of the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League starting this fall.
