Islanders 3, Caps 2
That was some wild stuff. Caps scored in just eight seconds. Alex Semin tied a team record with that one. Hat tip to Brendan Morrisonn for creating the turnover that led to the goal. But goalie Jose Theodore struggled to hold that lead. He allowed three goals on just five shots. Yeah, not good. One was a true softie. Another he could have stopped, but would have been tough. The third? Well, that should be credited to Semin, who was knocked down in the offensive zone to start a gimme breakaway. But the Caps fought back with a strong final 10 minutes. Nick Backstrom and Tomas Fleischmann hooked up for a goal. Flash now has six goals in seven games so far this year. I’d say he’s fully recovered from that blood clot. Backstrom, by the way, lost an edge as he drove the net so his “pass” to Fleischmann needs quotes around it. He saw the replay on the big scoreboard and just smiled.
