Tax-free prep for hurricane season

The hurricane season is about to arrive, and Virginia is holding a sales-tax holiday so residents can stock up on supplies.

The holiday starts Friday and runs through Thursday. During this time, residents can buy emergency items costing less than $60 such as batteries, flashlights, bottled water, first-aid kits and tarps without paying the state’s 5 percent sales tax. Generators that cost $1,000 or less also are exempt. Food and candles do not qualify. For more information, visit tax.virginia.gov – AP
