A collision on the Capital Beltway Friday morning left one driver dead after her vehicle was struck by a dump truck.
At about 9:15 a.m. a woman driving a Mazda Miata struck a jersey wall while traveling southbound on the Beltway, just north of Md. Route 210 in Oxon Hill, according to the Maryland State Police. The Mazda bounced back into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Mack dump truck on the driver’s side door.
Police said the truck had no chance of avoiding the convertible.
The woman was transported to Fort Washington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the dump truck was not injured, according to police.
Police are waiting to contact the deceased’s family before identifying the woman.
