Sorry folks. Would love to be done with this Michael Nylander story. But general manager George McPhee would only say he “didn’t know” if a French-Canadian network report saying Nylander was definitely headed to the KHL is accurate. That was after tonight’s 5-4 win over the Islanders. McPhee seems as exasperated as anybody to still be answering these questions. RDS is the network and – for what it’s worth – they are saying the team is Dynamo Minsk, a club based in that Belarussian city. Again, no one with the Caps will confirm that and I don’t have sources in Minsk, either, where it’s closing in on 7 a.m.
Nylander has been quiet throughout this whole process. But at the very least this situation should be resolved – one way or the other – by tomorrow. Of course, we’ve heard that before. Washington has been trying to find a new home for the 37-year-old center to get out from under his $4.875 million salary-cap hit. They would, of course, still have to pay him. The move would simply offer cap relief and allow the Caps room to make other deals.
