Trump campaign cancels and reduces ad spending in swing states

President Trump’s reelection campaign has canceled television advertising planned for swing states New Hampshire, Iowa, and Nevada, where Trump just held two rallies.

The ad space was booked between Sept. 15 and 21, according to political advertising trackers.

Trump won Iowa against Hillary Clinton in 2016, losing in New Hampshire and Nevada.

According to Advertising Analytics, the campaign has also reduced spending for those dates in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Less than two weeks ago, the campaign said it was going “all-in” with a $14 million ad buy in Minnesota. Republicans have not won the state in a presidential election since 1972.

Speaking in Wisconsin on Monday, Vice President Mike Pence said, “The road to victory runs right through Wisconsin.” It was his second consecutive week visiting the state.

Ballots were supposed to arrive in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin this week but are delayed by a court battle over mail-in ballots.

On Monday, the Trump campaign redirected about $1.89 million into Arizona, Florida, Maine, North Carolina, and Nebraska, all states the president won in 2016.

The Biden campaign, which pulled in a record $364 million fundraising haul last month, began running television ads in Maine last week.

The Trump campaign did not offer comment.
