Game # 47

Caps (28-12-6, 62 points) at Toronto Maple Leafs (16-23-9 41 points)

Caps are back at Verizon Center tonight for a game against the Maple Leafs. Toronto is still mired in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, but no one around here is taking this one for granted – especially after Washington lost both games at Air Canada Center. Toronto won 2-1 on Nov. 21 and 6-3 on Dec. 12. That game ranks as one of the Caps’ worst of the season.  Washington is even a woeful 2-for-10 on the power play against by far the league’s worst PK unit. Toronto is killing off penalties at a rate of 68.9 percent. Caps coach Bruce Boudreau had no update on defenseman John Erskine (upper-body injury), who won’t play tonight. But forward Alex Semin was at least dubbed a “maybe”. So there’s that. Jose Theodore is expected to start in goal. Will check on Semin during warm-ups in a bit.
