It may be 90 degrees outside, but the Washington area hasn’t forgotten that it was buried in snow just a few months ago — and neither has FEMA.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday additional federal funds totaling $13.3 million for the District, Maryland and Virginia to help pay for the expensive snow removal from the December and February storms.

This most recent round of grants from FEMA raises the total amount of federal funds for the storms received by the region to more than $56 million.

Virginia received the most funding— $6.2 million. Much of those funds will go to Fairfax and Prince William counties to pay for labor, equipment, and materials for salt, and meals for employees who worked long hours removing the snow.

Maryland’s Baltimore County was awarded $4.8 million, while the District of Columbia was awarded $2.3 million.

The funds represent a 75 percent federal share of the overall costs for both states and the District.
