Artist butchers hall of fame plaque for US women’s soccer hero Brandi Chastain

U.S. Women’s Soccer legend Brandi Chastain was inducted into the San Francisco Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame Monday night, yet her dedicated plaque angered fans across the nation for one obvious reason: it looks nothing like her.

Chastain, hero of the 1999 Women’s World Cup, addressed the poorly executed depiction shortly after Monday night’s ceremony.

“It’s not the most flattering,” she told The Mercury News. “But it’s nice.”

Chastain, a two-time World Cup champion , two-time Olympic gold medalist and San Jose native, played 17 seasons with the U.S. national team before retiring to become a coach and eventual broadcaster.

She is the latest in a line of athletes, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Brady, to have their likenesses marred by artists.

The NFL’s Harris Barton and John McVay, MLB’s Matt Cain and NBA’s Tim Hardaway Sr. were also inducted Monday night.
