Trump floats changes to libel laws

President Trump hinted Thursday that he could support changes to federal libel laws to make it easier to take legal action against news outlets.

“The failing [New York Times] has disgraced the media world. Gotten me wrong for two solid years. Change libel laws?” Trump tweeted.

The tweet included a link to a recent story by the New York Post headlined: “The New York Times’ ongoing dishonesty only helps Trump.”

Trump has previously threatened to relax libel laws so that individuals can sue media organizations more easily. Despite his criticism of the Times, Trump gave the publication an exclusive interview as recently as last week.
