Baltimore?s Inner Harbor will be haunted this weekend ? by ghost ships, jack-o?-lanterns and tons of trick-or-treaters.
The waterfront will be the site of the first annual Halloween Around the Harbor, an event planned and organized by the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore. The event features a variety of activities designed to give Baltimore?s families a weekend of safe Halloween fun.
“We want to create an even more attractive and decorative waterfront,” said Laurie Schwartz of Waterfront Partnership, whose mission is to enliven, market and promote the waterfront.
“It?s our first [Halloween event] ever, so we?re anxious to see how many people come out. We?ll be here with open arms.”
Children will be able to trick-or-treat for free this afternoon at the National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, Port Discovery, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum and the Hard Rock Cafe. These same attractions are offering half-price admission to costumed children with an adult today and Sunday.
The Baltimore Maritime Museum will turn the USCGC Taney into a haunted ship available for touring tonight.
The Scribblemonsters, a popular children?s rock band, will perform free at Power Plant Live from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Jim Dague, the founder and lead singer of the group, said that the band will be dressed as the Partridge Family for the occasion.
“We?ll open with a Partridge Family song, a couple of other covers that people will know as well and then our originals,” Dague said. “It?s fun just because it?s different when music is being performed by a live, essentially pop-rock band. It?s very interactive, it lends itself to sucking people into the fun.”
“[The event] is a fun way to attract locals back to the waterfront. So many think of [the Harbor] as a place for tourists, but it?s really for Baltimoreans,” Schwartz said. “We hope this begins a tradition of locals thinking of the Harbor for special and everyday occasions.”
