Dominion warns of utility bill scam

Dominion Virginia Power customers should be on the lookout for a nationwide scam, according to officials with the company.

Victims are being contacted in person, by phone and by text message with offers to pay for customer’s utility bills through a federal program, according to an AP report.

Some customers have already reported falling victim to the scam, company officials said, giving up personal information such as a Social Security number in the process.

Dominion officials said that, according to the Better Business Bureau, there is no such federal program, and customers contacted with the offer should call the police.
