German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been forced to postpone her first sit-down meeting with President Trump due to a snowstorm that his set to hit the Northeast Monday evening.
Trump and Merkel were slated to participate in a bilateral meeting at the White House on Tuesday, after which they had agreed to host a joint press conference with domestic and foreign reporters. A senior administration official said last week that Trump was eager to get Merkel’s insights about Russian President Vladimir Putin, who Trump has yet to meet in person.
The purpose of the meeting is to “build a personal relationship and have a positive interaction,” the official said.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters on Monday that Trump and Merkel will now meet on March 17 and maintain the same schedule of events as previously expected.
