Oilers 2, Caps0
Edmonton jumped on top with a goal by Shawen Horcoff just 65 seconds into the period. That came off a 2-on-0 break thanks to a Jeff Schultz turnover. Meanwhile, the Caps still can’t solve Oilers goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers. They’ve thrown 24 shots at him, including two good ones from Brendan Morrison, and he’s been up to the challenge. Overall, shots are 24-18 in favor of Washington.
The Oilers scored again when a shot by Andrew Cogliano at 16:42 deflected off Karl Alzner and into the Washington goal. Second night in a row that’s happened – Jeff Schultz took the honors in Vancouver on Friday night. Caps top line – Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin – was on the ice for both goals. Schultz actually had a turnover on the Cogliano goal, too – though Edmonton had taken control by then anyway with a couple of solid shifts. Thought Michal Neuvirth was again pretty good in that period. Can’t fault him for the deflection and he made a critical stop on a Horcoff breakaway when the Oilers were shorthanded. Caps 0-for-2 on the power play and 0-for-6 over last five periods.
