Trump vows not to sign Obamacare repeal unless it’s a ‘great plan’

President Trump promised to not sign legislation that would repeal and replace Obamacare unless it’s a “great plan,” according to remarks released ahead of a Fox News interview airing Monday evening.

Speaking in an interview on “The Fox News Specialists,” which will air at 5 p.m., Trump told co-host Eric Bolling that he was “doing the best” he could on repealing and replacing Obamacare. In March, Republicans were forced to pull a replacement bill from the House floor at the last minute because it did not have enough votes for passage.

“The one mistake I made with the healthcare,” he said. “You know, we have one plan that’s going through. It’s been getting better and better and better and someone said ‘the people voting for Trump aren’t getting good’ … they’re gonna get the greatest! These are the greatest people. We’re either gonna have a great plan or I’m not signing it. And I’ve said from day one, the best thing I could do is let Obamacare die and then come in with a plan.”

The bill being debated among Republicans in Congress, the American Health Care Act, recently has included changes that would allow states to opt out of certain Obamacare mandates. While the latest changes have brought more conservative lawmakers on board, centrist Republicans have said they are concerned about various aspects of the bill and some have said they will not vote for it.

A vote on the American Health Care Act may occur this week, but Congress is also voting on a spending bill that will keep the government funded until Sept. 30.
