NYC expressway reopens after pineapple spill

NEW YORK (AP) — The Staten Island Expressway has reopened hours after a truck carrying pineapples overturned and spilled its contents.

The Staten Island Advance reports (http://bit.ly/1iG7q2k ) that the accident occurred around 5:43 a.m. Saturday when a tractor-trailer carting pineapples flipped near the expressway’s Slosson Avenue exit.

The accident shut down eastbound traffic for several hours.

Firefighters tell the Advance that a second car also was involved. They say the driver of one of the vehicles was treated for minor injuries.
