Man killed by Red Line train in Rockville

A man was killed by a Red Line train at the Rockville Station this morning after he “intentionally placed himself” on the tracks.

An adult male got onto the tracks in the path of a train headed north towards the Shady Grove Metro station, and was struck at 11:17 a.m., according to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials responding to the scene reported upon their arrival that the man was dead

As of approximately 12:30 p.m. the man’s body had not been extracted from underneath the train, Stessel said, as WMATA officials waited for a medical examiner to arrive at the scene.

The station was closed for about 30 minutes before reopening shortly before noon, Stessel said. Trains are now single-tracking on the southbound tracks between Shady Grove and Twinbrook stations.
