Caps Second Period Update

Caps 1, Wild 1

Washington took control that period. Outshot Minnesota 16-6. Wild goal came from Caps killer Cal Clutterbuck. He scored twice against Washington in their game in St. Paul last season. Have to wonder if last night’s shootout loss to Tampa and subsequent late travel to D.C. will hurt the Wild in the final period.

Mike Green scored for the Caps to tie the game. It was his first power-play goal of the year. He posted 18 last season – a Caps’ record for a defenseman. Tomas Fleischmann and Brendan Morrison had the assists. Flash found Green streaking into the slot. It was his third assist of the season. Washington has 31 shots to 16. They’re also being outhit 13-8 – for what it’s worth.

Forward David Steckel has won seven of his nine faceoffs. Forward Mike Knuble was injured in the first period. I thought he landed on his wrist or forearm when he drove – or was helped depending on your perspective – into the Minnesota goal. Others here at Verizon think he landed on his head or neck. Either way, Caps PR says he “may return” with an undisclosed injury. But we didn’t see him in the second period so I’m guessing his night is finished.
