A Centers of Disease Control and Prevention advisory group is recommending a further study into reports that some teenagers and young adults have experienced heart inflammation after receiving coronavirus vaccines.
A statement from the committee dated Monday acknowledged reports that some vaccine recipients, mostly male adolescents, developed inflammation of the heart muscle known as myocarditis, according to the Guardian.

The CDC says it has not found more cases that would be expected in the population but still recommended that healthcare providers be aware of the “potential adverse event,” adding that the complications can be caused by a variety of viruses.
The complications typically started within four days of the patients receiving the vaccine, but the CDC did not specify which vaccine specifically was causing the problems.
In late April, Israel’s Health Ministry announced it was looking into reports of heart inflammation and said it was being reported by people who received the Pfizer vaccine.
An Israeli health official said “tens of incidents” of myocarditis were reported out of more than 5 million vaccinated people.

“Adverse events are regularly and thoroughly reviewed and we have not observed a higher rate of myocarditis than what would be expected in the general population. A causal link to the vaccine has not been established,” Pfizer said at the time.
