Lewandowski: Trump, Ryan have ‘a lot in common’

Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski pushed back against House Speaker Paul Ryan’s refusal to support the presumptive Republican nominee during a Tuesday night interview.

Lewandowksi said both GOP figures share a number of policy positions and should focus on those shared views rather than differences during their meeting Thursday.

“I think Mr. Trump and Paul Ryan have a lot in common and I think those things that they have in common are looking at reducing the budget deficit, making sure we have a balanced budget for the first time since Speaker Gingrich was the speaker, making sure we’re providing middle class tax cuts,” Lewandowski told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Ryan had criticized Trump last week, telling CNN he was not ready to support the likely GOP nominee, which prompted Trump’s team to set up a meeting with the House leader.

Lewandowski remained adamant Tuesday that the two can unite on the principles that define the Republican Party. But the exact path to forging a partnership remains unknown.

“How we get there? I’m not sure, but we’ll find out,” Lewandowski said.
