Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake said she has a hard time watching films today “because everything’s gone so woke.”
While speaking during an “Ask Me Anything” event in Peoria, Arizona, on Wednesday, Lake was asked who her favorite actor is.
“Any actor who’s been canceled is now my favorite actor,” Lake answered as the crowd laughed. “Because that means they are probably doing something good.”

Lake described a recent experience during a quick trip to California where she had lunch with Mel Gibson.
“He made some of the only films I can stomach anymore because everything’s gone so woke,” Lake said of Gibson. “Pinch me! I still can’t believe I sat next to Mel Gibson for lunch. He came to meet me, and I just said, ‘Thank you for making such great movies!’”
Lake specifically praised Braveheart, The Patriot, and Apocalypto as some of her favorites.
“Without him making these amazing movies, I don’t know what I would watch because I’ve become really difficult to watch movies with,” Lake said. “The minute I start seeing woke stuff happening, I start pointing it out. ‘Did you see that? That was really —’ My kids say, ‘Mom, we can’t watch movies with you anymore.’ Unless the movie was from the 1980s, I’m just — I can’t watch it anymore.”
Lake also said she enjoys Rob Schneider, noting that “he’s funny. I love his comedy.”
The gubernatorial candidate noted that she quickly writes off those who “start trashing America.”
“This country is too important. Our Constitution is too important. Our kids’ liberty and freedom is too important,” Lake added. “These actors in Hollywood who decide that they’re going to trash this country, you’ve lost me forever.”
