NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) — The murder trial of an upstate New York man has taken a last-minute twist with the defendant changing his mind and taking the stand.
Local media report that jurors expected to hear closing arguments Thursday in Ganesh Ramsaran’s trial in Chenango Count Court. Instead, they listened to the 39-year-old former IBM program manager testify that he didn’t kill Jennifer Renz Ramsaran.
The 36-year-old mother of three disappeared in December 2012. Her naked, frozen body was found the following February off a rural road near the couple’s home in New Berlin.
Ramsaran was charged with second-degree murder three months later. His decision to testify came a day after he told the judge he wouldn’t be taking the stand.
The judge has recessed the trial until Monday, when the former Yonkers resident is scheduled to resume testifying.
