More tutoring will be coming to four D.C. elementary schools.
Reading Partners, a California nonprofit dedicated to helping disadvantaged children learn to read, will expand to four D.C. schools this year, and possibly more in future years.
Students at Brightwood Elementary, Brightwood Congress Heights Academy, and D.C. Prep Academy, as well as one to be decided, will receive the tutoring help.
Children reading below grade level at each school will receive tutoring from trained volunteers through a model developed at Stanford Universsity, the nonprofit says.
The program currently serves 24 elementary schools throughout California with more than 1,400 volunteers and boasts an 87 percent success rate.
