Could a new hotel, conference center and retail hub featuring a restaurant boasting live entertainment be in Howard University’s future?
Prominent D.C. developer LaKritz|Adler hopes so. The firm, which has undertaken several historic revitalizations in the Metro’s Green Line neighborhoods, wants to take on the barren 800 block of Florida Avenue near Howard University. The company says it has been selected as a finalist by Metro to redevelop the site between the U Street and Howard/Shaw Metro stops on the Green Line.
According to its website, the developer is bidding on three vacant parcels on Florida Avenue and would join that land with an adjacent parcel owned by a LaKritz|Adler affiliate. The project includes a “freestanding restaurant” for live entertainment at the corner of 9th and U streets.
