President George H.W. Bush was released from the hospital Monday after being treated for pneumonia for nearly two weeks.
Jim McGrath, the 41st president’s spokesman, said Bush is doing well.
“He is thankful for the many prayers and kind messages he received during his stay, as well as the world-class care that both his doctors and nurses provided,” McGrath said in a statement.
Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Jan. 18 and was taken to the intensive care unit after needing to be intubated and helped with his breathing. He was released from the ICU early last week and was expected to be discharged over the weekend.
His wife, Barbara Bush, also needed to be hospitalized after battling bronchitis. She was released from the hospital last week and is said to be doing well.
