Two children died in a fiery car crash Friday night in Prince George’s County.
Three vehicles crashed near Route 50 and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway around 9:35 p.m.
Emergency personnel arrived to find four adults injured and two children trapped in one of the cars, which had caught fire.
Two off-duty police officers and a volunteer firefighter tried to rescue the children before emergency workers arrived, but were unable to save them due to the extreme heat, according to Prince George’s County police spokesman Paul Cruz.
The four adults were taken to local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Maryland State Police are investigating the accident.
