First came Island Breeze, Bacardi?s low-calorie rum, peddled by “Sex and the City?s” svelte Kim Cattrall.
Now, there?s Hint, a line of flavored waters marketed to mix with vodka for a slim cocktail. We?re waiting for samples to see if it deserves any tongue time. Emily assumes it?s a waste of water, while Jessica, in the name of research, will taste many full-calorie alternatives to compare it with.
Jessica: If Hint and vodka concoctions let more people raise a glass rather than sit at home, recounting the four steamed snap peas they?re feasting on for dinner, than I say flood the market with them.
Emily: Number one, the only ?water? I want in my adult beverages is vodka. (Little-known fact ? 60 percent of vodka is water.) Number two, I?m sick of hearing about diets, especially since I predict most Hint drinkers are already thin and just want to hear someone say “Oh my God, Becky, you?re not fat at all. You look great!”
Jessica: I?ve seen girls gag their way through 110 calories of rum or vodka and Diet Coke. What they don?t realize is no one is looking at their whittled waists; they?re too busy gawking at the girls? pained expressions.
Emily: I?d rather have a few extra pounds than suffer my way through a diet cocktail. The fake taste of Diet Coke is bad enough ? I don?t even want to think about what this low-calorie fruit water tastes like.
Jessica: I was nursed on Diet Coke straight from the womb, but even I have to admit sometimes having one or two calorie-laden, delicious drinks is more satisfying than 10 skinny, flavorless glasses.
Emily: No one?s looking at the obvious here. If you find an alcohol with a proof that?s high enough, you don?t have to drink many. I find that a tall glass of orange juice and Bacardi 151 takes me through the night pretty nicely.
HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE ? FOR SISQO?
Baltimore?s Sisqo is more than just the “The Thong Song,” a churning pelvis and ever-changing hair color with a bright, nuclear glow.
You can judge for yourself July 26 when he takes the stage at Rams Head Live! with Dru Hill.
Sisqo got his start performing at the Fudgery in Harborplace beside other members of Dru Hill (named for Baltimore?s Druid Hill Park.) Just don?t expect the group to hand out tiny fudge samples at their upcoming show. Tickets went on sale earlier this week. To snag a pair, visit ramsheadlive.com.
MOTHER?S DAY MUST NOTS
Nearly every publication runs a Mother?s Day gift guide. We think the alternative ? what not to give your mom may be more helpful. Do not surprise your mother with:
– plans to move back home;
– your collection of worn ?21 and over? club wrist bracelets;
– homemade earrings, unless you?re under the age 12;
– a photo album of your lover?s piercings and tattoos;
– Season 1 of “Yo Mamma” on DVD;
– your positive pregnancy test ? unless you?re married.
CATCH US IF YOU CAN
Can you hear it? More than 45,000 tailgaters and fans are preparing for Saturday?s Poets & Pirates show at M&T Bank Stadium. Jessica will be one of them, cheering for Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn, Sammy Hagar, Gary Allan and Big & Rich.
Because she would rather light her hair on fire than listen to five hours of country, Emily is checking out The Vespertine Movement at the Recher Theatre in Towson tonight. The guys play with MisEuphoria, YMI and Buried Beneath the Ruins.
We?re staring at two gleaming yellow press passes showing Curlin galloping to victory at last year?s Preakness. Nine more days and we?ll be wearing oversized hats, gambling and admiring the purebreds ? and the horses.
