Police shoot, kill man in Southeast

SFlbD.C. police shot a man after responding to reports of a domestic dispute in Southeast D.C. on Friday afternoon.

Officers found a woman in the street and 24-year-old Albert Jermaine Payton wielding a knife when they arrived at the 4200 block of 4th Street S.E., at about 5:47 p.m. Police said two officers shot Payton after he refused orders to put down the knife, and instead approached the officers while armed.

D.C. Fire and EMS officials took Payton to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

At least one of the people at the scene disputed the officer’s version of what happened, saying Payton complied with police but was still shot, according to WJLA.

The department’s Internal Affairs division is conducting an investigation of the case.
