A trio of political consultants who advised Bernie Sanders throughout the Democratic primary have joined the campaign of Florida Democrat Tim Canova, the man challenging outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Julian Mulvey, Tad Devine and Mark Longabaugh will reportedly help Canova bolster his media presence and take his message to Floridians between now and the Sunshine State’s Aug. 30 congressional primaries. The three consultants were behind several ads released by Sanders’ campaign during the presidential primary.
Wasserman Schultz resigned from her post at the DNC last week after internal emails released by WikiLeaks showed her and other party officials actively working to help Hillary Clinton defeat Sanders. She was booed and heckled by the socialist senator’s supporters at several points during the Democratic Party’s convention this week.
Sanders recently promised those who enthusiastically supported him in the primary, and remain persistent in their pursuit of a “political revolution,” that he will spend the next few months helping to elect progressive Democrats in down-ballot races. The Vermont senator endorsed Canova in late May, months after he first called on Wasserman Schultz to resign.
Canova’s campaign announced on Monday that it has raised more than $2.5 million, putting the law professor slightly behind his primary opponent in terms of his fundraising success. While no public polls have been released, Canova has capitalized on the dissatisfaction with Wasserman Schultz among far-left Democrats and he plans to campaign hard between now and the end of August.
