Kansas governor issues mask mandate

The governor of Kansas is issuing a statewide mask mandate that will go into place on Nov. 25.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced on Wednesday that residents of the state will be required to wear masks in public spaces, in line for transportation, and outdoors where social distancing is not possible.

“We have reached a new stage in our fight with this virus, and how we choose to respond could turn the tide for our businesses, our hospitals, and our schools,” Kelly said.

Kelly said her order is a bipartisan mandate that takes into account advice from medical professionals who are concerned with the situation on the ground in Kansas, where more than 5,500 cases were reported on Wednesday.

Children under the age of 5 and residents with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing face coverings will be exempt from the order.
