Dad found dead in river, child found dead at home

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after a 4-year-old was found dead inside her southwest Florida home. The girl’s father was found dead floating in a nearby river.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies found a car blocking the road near the Cape Coral Bridge with its hazards lights flashing Monday morning. A check of the license plate revealed the car belonged to 34-year-old John Medina. Authorities went to his home and found his daughter’s body inside. Authorities did not say how Sophie Medina died and no other details were released. A death investigation is underway.

On Sunday, a boater found John Medina’s body decomposing body floating in the Caloosahatchee River near Fort Myers.

Dive teams are searching the area between the Edison and Caloosahatchee bridges for evidence.
