WHO: Gov. Jerry Brown, D-Calif. WHAT: Proposes raising sales taxes on out-of-state corporations that sell goods in California in exchange for cutting taxes on California businesses
WHY IT’S DIM: Isn’t this effectively a state tariff — something the U.S. Constitution’s Commerce Clause is supposed to prevent?
CURE: A better way to prevent the stream of jobs and residents from California to Texas would be for California’s state government to cut taxes and repeal “green” energy mandates. Luckily for Texas, this will never occur to California.
