In its story on yesterday’s ballot measure on repeal of a controversial law in Colorado, the Los Angles Times reports:
Critics called the legislation an infringement of personal freedom and accused Morse of ramming it through the Democratic-run Legislature without enough public input or a single Republican vote.
Which, on first reading, makes the issue sound sort of like a repeal of Obamacare. It was, in fact, a vote on whether or not to remove from office two legislators who were behind the passage of controversial gun laws. After a campaign that attracted considerable outside interest – and money:
Colorado Senate President John Morse, who shepherded the legislation to passage, was defeated on a 51%-49% vote. Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo, a fellow Democrat who voted in favor of the measures, lost 56% to 44%. They were replaced by Republicans who opposed the new restrictions.
Call it one for Duck Dynasty.
The national implications seem clear and undeniable.
