Apple removes Infowars apps from App Store: Report

Apple reportedly pulled five applications from its App Store late Friday that are associated with Infowars, the website founded by far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

An Apple spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal the technology company removed the apps for violating its guidelines for developers, which prohibit content that is “offensive, insensitive, upsetting…or in exceptionally poor taste.” However, she did not specify what exactly triggered the decision.

The move is a blow for Jones, who on Thursday was permanently banned by Twitter for infringing the social media giant’s abusive behavior policies through a series of posts and videos of him confronting CNN journalist Oliver Darcy. Infowars’ account was also removed from the microblogging site.

In his rants, Jones accused Darcy of using his reporting to convince corporations to shut down “conservative and libertarian speech.”

Jones was nixed from other Apple platforms as well as Facebook and YouTube in August for various code of conduct infractions. Infowars remained on Facebook as of Saturday afternoon.

Jones is known for pushing conspiracy theories about events, such as the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. He has criticized the actions taken against him as infringements on his right to free speech.
