I had the darnedest time trying to caricature Dan Snyder today. During my increasingly frustrating attempts, cartoonist Scott Stantis, of The Birmingham News (Ala.), called me up to chat about the upcoming AAEC convention in D.C. I told him about my caricature headache, to which he replied, “Hold on … What’s this guy’s name? I’m going to Google him.” In about two minutes he had sketched, scanned up and e-mailed me a wonderful rendition of Dan Snyder. … sigh … If only I could have used his instead — then again, I’d rather not have to pay him any royalties.
So, in the end, I put my ink-smudged nose to the grindstone and came up with my own version of Snyder — only after about 45 minutes of sketching and erasing, taking astep back, and sketching and erasing again.
