Trump backs Blackburn in Tennessee Senate race, vows to campaign with her

President Trump endorsed Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in the race for the U.S. Senate and vowed to campaign alongside her.

“.@MarshaBlackburn is a wonderful woman who has always been there when we have needed her. Great on the Military, Border Security and Crime. Loves and works hard for the people of Tennessee. She has my full endorsement and I will be there to campaign with her!” Trump tweeted Thursday.

Blackburn is running for the seat currently held by Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a critic of Trump who is retiring at the end of his term, against former Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Corker said he will not campaign against Bredesen, though he did recently donate $10,000 to Blackburn’s campaign.

A recent poll shows Bredesen has the lead over Blackburn. Trump won Tennessee by 26 points in 2016.
