Senator Lieberman’s :
Senators Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) today introduced a resolution recognizing the strategic success of the troop surge in Iraq and expressing gratitude to the members of the United States Armed Forces who made that success possible. The resolution calls on the Senate to acknowledge “the success of the troop surge in Iraq and its strategic significance in advancing the vital national interests of the United States in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world, in particular as a strategic victory in a central front of the war on terrorism.” “It is time for all of us in Washington to put aside our partisan blinders and recognize the strategic success the surge has achieved, so that we can secure its gains and apply its lessons to the other front of the war on terror, the war in Afghanistan,” said Lieberman. “Our responsibility is to build upon the success that has been achieved by acknowledging and advancing the strategy that is now helping to bring home our troops with honor.” “I wish the Congress could speak with one voice and tell our men and women in uniform and their families, ‘One hell of a job,'” said Graham. “This is an opportunity to understand and appreciate that the sacrifices that went into the surge by the Americans, by the coalition forces, and by the Iraqis themselves, have paid great dividends, not only in Iraq but throughout the world.”
