Meet the new school year … same as the old school year? Mayor Fenty and his new schools chief, Michelle Rhee, set some lofty goals very early in Fenty’s stab at turning around the failing D.C. Schools System. I sincerely hope his plans won’t blow up because of unrealistic expectations. However, I do give the mayor credit for having high standards. The overwrought, creaking and leaking school system needs a strong leader for real reform to take root.
I was all set to draw this cartoon yesterday, but the Alberto Gonzales resignation scuttled that plan. Some days you just have to start from scratch if the news dictates it. I think the attorney general of the United States stepping down certainly falls into the “must draw” category.
