County executive should pay for security detail

I have a very serious issue with misusing $360,000 of our tax dollars for the security of one individual.
If Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett wants this level of security, let him pay for it out of his own pocket. We could use this money to protect children in the schools. Once gang members learn that there will be no police in the area, it will be an open invitation for them to intimidate those who do not want to be affiliated with gangs.
These decisions tell me that one person is worth more than all the children in the public schools. Obviously they have no young folks in the school system and could care less about what happens to them.

County continues to squeeze overtaxed residents

Montgomery County Council members are not the true representatives of the people. By passing a $4.3 billion budget that supports County Executive Ike Leggett’s unwise tax and spending policies, they proved they are nothing but Leggett’s puppets and mouthpieces.
Already overtaxed county residents will be squeezed to the tune of more than $250 in additional county taxes on their utility bills. They will also have to pay more taxes on their cellular phones and an unwarranted ambulance fee.
Meanwhile, these liberals continue to waste money on two day labor centers, the WIC clinic and CASA of Maryland — which all serve and support illegal immigrants.
The wasteful spending in this county just has no end. It’s high time that the citizens wake up and tell all incumbent County Council members to look for another job.

Abortion helps conservatives politically

Cal Thomas insists that abortion should be discouraged and women wanting abortions should be subjected to sonograms in hopes that this “would save many aborted babies and increase the number of taxpayers.” His bon mot reminds us that “right to life” is an ideology where facts follow feeling and are force-fitted to flow from the desired end result.
Reducing the number of aborted babies would more likely lead to more welfare cases and more criminals, as Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner’s best-selling “Freakonomics” showed, using real data and conventional social scientific analytical techniques.
Abortion is a political windfall for conservatives. It moves millions of Catholics and evangelical Protestants into the conservative column and keeps them there. It also reduces the numbers of people on welfare who would vote with the liberal bloc.
