District rakes in $2 million in ticket amnesty

The District of Columbia collected nearly $2 million from an amnesty program designed to give traffic ticket scofflaws a break.

Drivers paid 35,357 long-overdue tickets and coughed up $1,902,665 in the three months since the program started. Under the amnesty, officials are waiving all penalties on outstanding tickets issued before Jan. 1, 2010.

The program continues through Jan. 27, 2012.
