Fourth retiree community resident in Florida charged with casting multiple ballots in 2020

Another resident of a Florida retirement community was charged with voting more than once in the 2020 election.

Charles Franklin Barnes, 64, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of fraud for casting more than one ballot in an election, a felony in Florida, court documents reviewed by the Washington Examiner show. He was released later that evening on a $2,000 bond, according to court records.

He was also registered to vote in his original home state of Connecticut, according to Click Orlando. He was not affiliated with any political party when he voted in 2020, the outlet said.

Barnes is the fourth resident of The Villages to be suspected of voter fraud, with Jay Ketcik, Joan Halstead, and John Rider also voting in Florida and voting out of state in the 2020 election, according to court documents. All three appeared to be registered Republicans, voter registration records revealed.

Ketcik, 63, and Halstead, 72, turned themselves in to the authorities, while Rider, 61, was arrested on Dec. 3. If convicted, the three could face up to five years in prison.

Halstead has retained a law firm to fight the fraud charge. Two key witnesses in the case are scheduled to give depositions via Zoom on Feb. 24, according to Villages-News.
