Environmental experts want to enlighten Montgomery County residents on ways to save on their energy bills this summer.
At a free workshop tonight, members of the county’s Department of Environmental Protection will outline small things homeowners can do to reduce energy consumption in a big way, county officials say.
Typically, the DEP does a great deal of public outreach and education in people’s homes, but this time the agency wanted to have a meeting open to anyone.
“The motivation here is that with the really radical increase in energy costs, it’s obviously a huge concern,” county public information officer Esther Bowring said Monday. “The department is trying to be proactive [and] step up.”
As of July 1, Baltimore Gas & Electric customers’ electric bills will rise 15 percent, while Pepco customers in Maryland began experiencing up to 50 percent increases June 1.
