Kaine: Trump ran ‘out of gas’

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine argued Tuesday that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump didn’t have enough stamina during Monday night’s debate and ultimately ran “out of gas” toward the end.

“I was watching it on a channel that had a split screen, and in that moment, Hillary was going strong and ready for another 4-5 hours of debate and Donald Trump was on the ropes and looked out of gas,” Kaine said on ABC.

“Hillary answered questions and Donald avoided them, and Hillary told the truth, and Donald told some whoppers,” Kaine said. “He just seemed rattled the longer the debate wore on.”

Kaine gave Trump credit for his attacks early in the debate, specifically on trade, but was unable to answer questions effectively on his tax returns and his comments in recent years over whether President Obama was born in America. He also criticized Trump for struggling to answer questions on race issues.

“I think her pushing him was effective, but … in some ways, I think the more effective part of it was just watching him struggle with an answer,” Kaine said.
