From Merriweather Post Pavilion to Crystal City, and points in between, everyone in the metro area is enjoying the recent fine weather. Five things to do this weekend.
Friday: Aziz Ansari at Warner Theatre
This comedian has gained popularity on the show “Parks and Recreation,” but at heart he’s a standup comedian. He’s currently on his “Dangerously Delicious” tour, which comes to the Warner Theatre on Friday. A second show was recently added – 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. $35. warnertheatre.com
More funny: Also on Friday, the DC Improv hosts its Improvisational Comedy Showcase. $10. 8 p.m. dcimprov.com
Saturday: H Street Festival
No folks, this is isn’t Chinatown. This is H Street Northeast, one of the coolest neighborhoods in the District. But H Street is more than just hip bars, clubs and music venues. It’s a vibrant community that comes alive on Saturday during this annual festival. Enjoy food, music, vendors, a pie-eating contest and more. Music highlights include H.R. from Bad Brains. From noon to 6 p.m. Free. hstreetfestival2010.com
Get there: One of the drawbacks of the revitalized H Street neighborhood is getting there. For the festival, enjoy free shuttle bus service from Gallery Place and Eastern Market.
Saturday: HFStival 2010 at Merriweather
This year’s lineup for the HFStival would have been an amazing congruence of rock ‘n’ roll if it took place a decade ago. Third Eye Blind headlines, with Everclear, Presidents of the United States of America, Fuel, Lit, Marcy Playground and Ed Kowalczyk of Live also on the main stage. That’s enough to make anyone who attended high school in the mid-to-late 1990s salivate. 11 a.m. doors. $35 to $50. whfs.radio.com/shows/hfstival/
Local: In addition to the main stage, the HFStival also has a local stage, featuring the likes of Jimmie’s Chicken Shack and Honor By August. merriweathermusic.com
Saturday: Smells Like Tease Spirit at the Palace of Wonders
This is the self-proclaimed “world’s only burlesque tribute to the 1990s,” and we have no reason to dispute the claim. This production features a number of touring performers, and should be loads of fun for those longing for days gone by. Shows at 9:30 and 11:30 p.m. $10. palaceofwonders.com
Make a day of it: Check out the aforementioned H Street Festival, grab dinner at one of the cool restaurants, and round out the day with a burlesque show.
Sunday: Vintage Crystal at Crystal City
Crystal City does it again. Don’t discount this Arlington neighborhood, as it seems every few weeks the area BID puts on a cool event. This Sunday, check out Vintage Crystal, complete with wine, food, music and dancing. From 2 to 6 p.m. Visit crystalcity.org for more info.
More CC: It’s Sunday, so if you want to get your football fix, pop into the Crystal City Sports Pub. You’ll find you favorite team on one of its 100 screens.
