In a new exhibit at Minas Gallery, Chilean psychiatrist-turned artist Robinson Muñoz shows a series of abstract paintings that explore poet and author Octavio Paz? belief that “Reality is not what we see, but what we discover.”
Muñoz moved to the United States in 1967 to study psychiatry ? specifically in children and adolescents. He used art and painting to communicate with his patients, according to a gallery statement.
His works are full-bodied, with an emphasis on the relationship of color to form.
The artist received his post-baccalaureate certificate from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2001.
The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on Tuesdays. Minas Gallery, 815 W. 36th St., Baltimore www.minasgallery.com or 410-732-4258.
