Golf star Tiger Woods told deputies that he had no memory of driving his vehicle after he was pulled from the wreckage of his Genesis GV80.
Police have obtained a search warrant to examine the SUV’s “black box” in an attempt to figure out what happened that led to the crash last month in the Los Angeles area that left the 45-year-old with several leg injuries and cuts on his face. Woods, who was rushed to a hospital emergency room for surgery, said he didn’t remember driving or what caused the wreck when questioned at the hospital, according to the warrant’s affidavit obtained by USA Today.
The five-time Masters Tournament winner was unconscious immediately after the crash when a nearby resident discovered the bloodied scene, the affidavit reads.

“The deputies asked him how the collision occurred,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Johann Schloegl wrote in the document. “Driver said he did not know and did not even remember driving … Driver was treated for his injuries at the hospital and was asked there again how the collision occurred. He repeated that he did not know and did not remember driving.”

The vehicle’s black box, from which data can be pulled, “constitutes evidence that tends to show the commission of a felony or misdemeanor offense,” he said in the affidavit seeking the search warrant. Despite the reference, the sheriff’s office has insisted that it does not see the investigation as a criminal one.
“The investigators in the accident, or in the collision, they did a search warrant to seize in essence the black box of the vehicle,” said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. “And that’s all it is. And they’re going to go through it and see if they can find out what was the performance of the vehicle, what was happening at the time of impact. And with that, they’ll have more information they can attribute the cause of the accident. And that’s all it is, and we’ll leave it at that, OK?’’

Villanueva said at the time of the crash that it appeared Wood’s vehicle hit the median, crossed multiple lanes of traffic, hit the curb, a tree, and then had his SUV flip multiple times.
