AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — People in communities across Texas are holding ceremonies to remember victims of the 9/11 attacks.
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw says Thursday’s anniversary of the 2001 attacks stands as a reminder to “stay vigilant.”
McCraw says DPS has a website for the agency’s iWATCH program where people can report suspicious behavior that may indicate criminal or terrorist activity. There’s also a mobile app for what DPS calls a partnership with other law enforcement agencies that’s meant to keep people in Texas safe.
On Sept. 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed as al-Qaida members hijacked four passenger jets, sending two of the planes into New York’s World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and the fourth into a Pennsylvania field.
