D.C. police have charged a 44-year-old man with murder in a 2007 attack after the victim recently died from the injuries.
Forty-four-year-old Malik Shabazz, of the District, was charged with second-degree murder while armed in the death of 34-year-old Demetrius Ormon Dempsey of D.C.
Police said Dempsey was found critically injured in the 200 block of 54th Street SE and transported to a local hospital. Dempsey remained in hospitals and nursing homes for the rest of his life until he died on Dec. 13, 2010.
The D.C. medical examiner has ruled the death of homicide resulting from complications of blunt force trauma.
